Millions of men the world over would never dream of going to work wearing anything else. Others reserve them for celebrations. The three-piece suit is one of the world’s most popular men’s garments, and one of the leading manufacturers is Hugo Boss.

The history of the suit dates all the way back to seventeenth-century England. More precisely to October 7, 1666, when King Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland decreed that the nobility were required to wear a simple black waistcoat at court. It was to be worn with a single-breasted or double-breasted jacket, or a single-breasted cutaway tailcoat.
The middle of the nineteenth century saw the advent of the suit as we know it today, with jacket, waistcoat and trousers of the same cloth and colour, with the jacket covering the trouser seat. At first, the suit was worn only for informal occasions out in the country or at the seaside. Later, the suit would become accepted in the cities and, by the end of World War I, the suit had won handily over the frockcoats and morning coats formerly in vogue.
Today, German brand Hugo Boss is one of the most well-known suit manufacturers on the planet. Famed for its classic men’s suits in black, grey, brown and blue shades, Hugo Boss first tasted success in the 1970s when the company launched the Boss Black label with focus on a modern collection of suits, shirts and ties just for men. Since that time the brand’s popularity has grown steadily and today Hugo Boss is represented in more than 110 countries, thanks to Boss Black.
In 1993 the company felt the time was right to expand with three new labels: Boss Orange, Boss Green and Hugo. Boss Black was and still is the Hugo Boss signature collection, while the other labels are more relaxed and trendy, featuring leisure wear for men and women, sportswear, and youth styles.
Women entered the picture in 2000 when Hugo Boss decided to launch a collection for women under the Boss Black label: Boss Woman. This marked the beginning of many collections for women spanning the spectrum of the Hugo Boss labels.

In 2004, Hugo Boss introduced the exclusive Boss Selection collection featuring cloth and craftsmanship of the very best quality. Herringbone and glen check
The Fall/Winter 2010/2011 Boss Black collection is inspired by the elegant gentlemen’s fashion of the 1940s and 1950s, with materials in the modern patterns of the age: herringbone, glen check, Prince of Wales and pinstripe. But where those materials often proved thick and rough, today’s suits are cut from new and lighter cloths such as soft luxury wool or a special wool-silk blend.
Boss Woman has created an ultra-modern, glamorous and sophisticated collection that marks a shift from the original Boss Woman focus on suits to today’s wide selection of garments for the individual woman. The classic business look is still essential, but now includes the option to combine various jackets, trousers, shirts and skirts to conjure up one’s own personal style.
